Cunard unveils transformative makeover for Queen Elizabeth
Cunard is excited to announce an era-defining refurbishment of Queen Elizabeth, paving the way for her highly anticipated inaugural Caribbean programme sailing from Miami and her debut Alaska season from Seattle in 2025. The luxurious 2,000 guest ship will undergo a significant refit* from 25 February to 13 March 2025, in Seatrium’s Admiralty Yard in Singapore, preparing her for a new Alaska season from Seattle in June and a dazzling debut voyage from Miami to the Caribbean on 16 October. The Caribbean season will begin with a 12-night roundtrip sailing from Miami, offering guests the chance to visit Bridgetown’s UNESCO- listed Garrison and bustling markets of Castries, St Lucia. For the first time in Cunard’s history, one of their iconic fleet will spend the full season in Miami and Queen Elizabeth will offer a dedicated programme of roundtrip Caribbean voyages with itineraries ranging from 9 to 28 nights. Guests will enjoy idyllic escapes to iconic destinations including Montego Bay in Jamaica, San Juan in Puerto Rico and St John’s in Antigua. Queen Elizabeth’s transformation** will feature refreshed signature interiors and exteriors designed to capture both tranquillity and vibrancy. Signature spaces such as the Commodore Club, Queens Room, Panorama Pool Club, Garden Lounge and The Pavilion will be thoughtfully revitalised, connecting guests to the ocean while providing the perfect space to relax or enjoy al fresco dining. As part of Queen Elizabeth’s transformation, the Grills experience—a hallmark of Cunard’s luxury offering—will be elevated to new heights. Guests staying in the exclusive Grills suites will enjoy enhanced interiors and exterior, featuring sumptuous furnishings, sophisticated detailing, and thoughtful design to deliver the ultimate in comfort and style. The Grills dining experience will also be enhanced by a special menu crafted exclusively for Grills guests by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux. Launching on Queen Elizabeth following her refit, this three course Gala Evening menu – which currently features across the Cunard fleet – will include expertly curated dishes designed to celebrate the finest culinary experiences at sea. Michel Roux said: “Crafting exclusive new menus for Cunard’s Grills guests is an extraordinary privilege. This project allows me to blend my passion for fine dining with the timeless elegance and sophistication that define the Cunard Grills experience. Each dish is carefully created to celebrate the finest ingredients, ensuring every meal is as special as the voyage itself. I’m incredibly fond of my partnership with Cunard and I’m really excited to continue this luxury collaboration in 2025.” Another standout feature of the refurbishment is the introduction of The Pavilion Wellness Café, which debuted earlier this year on Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne. This wellness-focused venue will serve breakfast, lunch hand daytime dining with a menu celebrating plant based cuisine alongside sustainably sourced meet, fish and dairy. Guests can also enjoy the Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea programme, first seen on Queen Anne. This innovative programme offers three-day packages tailored to relaxation, energy restoration or recovery, providing a rejuvenating journey at sea. Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “As Queen Elizabeth prepares for her highly anticipated debut seasons in the Caribbean from Miami and Alaska from Seattle, this transformation marks an exciting new chapter for Cunard. Inspired by the beauty of these extraordinary destinations, the ship’s revitalisation will seamlessly blend timeless elegance with modern comforts, creating an unparalleled guest experience. “We are especially excited to introduce the exclusive Gala Evening menu, crafted by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux. This remarkable addition will elevate the Grills dining experience to even greater heights, and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it.” Agents can visit www.ShineRewardsClub.com for the latest Cunard news and information, as well as to earn Shine points for bookings and training. 04 December, 2024

Cunard reports record-breaking bookings in 2024
Cunard has reported record-breaking bookings in 2024, following an exceptional year and the launch of its highly anticipated ship, Queen Anne. From 1 January to 31 October this year, Cunard recorded an impressive 73,000 additional guest reservations compared to the same period in 2023, representing a 23% year-on-year increase. This performance marks the highest number of guests booked between 1 January and 31 October than in any equivalent period on record. Both the UK and North American markets contributed significantly to this success, with a 24% increase in guests booking from the UK and 29% more from North America compared to 2023. The arrival of Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, in May has been a key factor in this growth alongside the launch of three new cruise programmes in 2024. Winter 2026 and summer 2026 itineraries were introduced in March, followed by the winter 2027 programme in October, further driving demand. As an iconic British brand, Cunard’s global appeal continues to grow, with more than half of bookings between 1 January and 31 October now originating from outside the UK. International markets have shown particularly strong interest, with targeted marketing campaigns in these regions driving a 22% increase in international guest bookings over the past year. In addition to international growth, Cunard continues to attract both new and returning travellers. From 1 January to 31 October 2024, the brand saw a 49% rise in first-time guests choosing to sail with Cunard compared to the same period in 2023. Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “As we look ahead to 2025, we are proud to report record-breaking bookings that demonstrate the continued strength of Cunard’s commercial performance. As an iconic British brand with growing international appeal, Cunard continues to attract travellers from across the globe who are drawn to the timeless elegance and modern luxury we provide. The launch of Queen Anne has been a key driver of this success, increasing our capacity and capturing the imagination of both loyal and first-time guests. These results are a testament to the hard work of our teams and partners worldwide, who ensure Cunard remains at the forefront of luxury travel.” 03 December, 2024

Celestyals inaugural Arabian Gulf season launches in Qatar
Celestyal has confirmed its flagship, Celestyal Journey, has arrived in Doha, Qatar, to start the line’s maiden Arabian Gulf season. The season begins with two specially themed F1 voyages, which will take in the Qatar and Abu Dhabi grand prix events. 32 global agents are being hosted on a five-day F1 themed ‘super fam’ to mark the launch. The fam comprises a three-night land stay, with various local excursions including to the Arabian Travel Market, and two days on Celestyal Journey while she is docked at Doha’s Grand Cruise Terminal. The attendees also had the option to attend the Qatar Grand Prix races and join a speaking session with Formula 1 driver and presenter David Coulthard, and Formula 1 presenter Laura Winter. During the event all of the global agents in attendance were gifted a free ‘Desert Days’ cruise credit so that they could return to experience the full voyage. In addition, Celestyal hosted an onboard event in partnership with Visit Qatar, Qatar Tourism, Qatar Airways and Mwani Port Authority for local dignitaries, while the ship was docked in port on November 30. They joined for a series of presentations, a ship tour, the traditional plaque exchange ceremony and a celebratory lunch. Subsequent Celestyal Journey departures will comprise a series of seven-night ‘Desert Days’ itineraries, sailing roundtrip from Doha, up to March 2025. Each cruise features calls to the iconic destinations of Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, an overnight stay in Dubai Marina, as well as visits to the lesser-known destinations of Khasab and Sir Bani Yas Island. Celestyal Journey will sail from Doha for three consecutive years throughout the winter seasons, following a collaboration between Celestyal and Visit Qatar. The ship features 630 suites and staterooms, seven restaurants, eight bars and lounges, two pools and Jacuzzis, and a deck dedicated to wellness including a spa and fitness area. It underwent a multi-million Euro refurbishment in September 2023, prior to entering the Celestyal fleet. Additional refurbishments were made enroute to Doha, including adding a Café Nation coffee bar, which was introduced on fleet mate Celestyal Discovery in March 2024. Lee Haslett, chief commercial officer at Celestyal, said: “We’re incredibly excited to see our first ever Arabian Gulf season get under way. I would like to thank our partners at Visit Qatar, Mwani port authority and Qatar Airways for their continued support and warm welcome to the region. We are confident that our special FI themed cruises will ensure we have a roaring start to the season, while the Desert Days itinerary offers the very best of the local region. Whether guests are familiar with the destinations we visit or are sampling them for the first time, there will be a wealth of authentic experiences available to everyone.” Celestyal Discovery will join Celestyal Journey in the region at the end of 2025. She will sail three-night ‘Iconic Arabia’ cruises roundtrip from Abu Dhabi, calling at Doha, Khalifa Bin Salman (Bahrain) and Dubai Marina, as well as four-night departures calling at Fujairah, Muscat and Kasab. Chris Theophilides, CEO at Celestyal, said: “We’re delighted to be commencing our season in the Arabian Gulf, with this momentous arrival into Doha. I want to thank our teams and partners who have made this a reality. It marks the significant start of Celestyal’s next chapter, operating a fully refreshed fleet across year-round operations and two regions. Cruise Month drives a surge in consumer engagement
November 29, 2024 – October’s new-look Cruise Month campaign has delivered its best-ever results in Australasia, attracting record levels of travel agent involvement while creating a surge in consumers looking to connect with agent members of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). With an expanded social media campaign and digital advertising program, this year’s Cruise Month initiative resulted in more than 20,300 visits to the ‘find a CLIA travel agent’ function on the CLIA website, a 51% increase on October last year. Overall traffic on the CLIA website was up 47%. At the same time, the number of travel agents who took part in Cruise Month initiatives more than doubled. Over 2,000 CLIA members took advantage of CLIA’s Cruise Month toolkit, and 3,400 members registered to take part in an expanded Cruise Month webinar program. CLIA Managing Director in Australasia Joel Katz said the primary aim of Cruise Month had been to elevate CLIA travel agents in the mind of consumers. “We know that CLIA members are the best-trained and most professional cruise specialists out there, and this year’s Cruise Month figures prove that this is important to consumers,” Mr Katz said. “October’s 51% increase in people using our agent search function shows there’s a lot of enthusiasm for cruising and that travellers are looking for a trusted advisor to help shape their holiday.” Mr Katz said this year’s Cruise Month webinar program had been the most extensive offered, with 30 online education opportunities scheduled throughout October. “Thousands of agents took part in webinars presented by more than two dozen cruise brands, giving them fresh insight into their latest product developments and promotions,” Mr Katz said. “We also presented webinars on each of our four weekly Cruise Month themes – Ocean Cruising, River Cruising, Expedition Cruising and Luxury Cruising – explaining the opportunities presented by each category and selling tips to help attract new sales.” With a fresh look linking the excitement of cruising with the allure of cruise destinations, this year’s Cruise Month campaign involved a rolling program of imagery and videos on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, directing consumers to CLIA cruise specialist travel agents. It also involved digital advertising targeting new-to-cruise consumers as well as established cruising fans, plus Cruise Month coverage in major newspapers and specialist publications, Cruise Month promotions by CLIA cruise lines, and a competition for CLIA travel agents who launched their own Cruise Month events. 29 November, 2024
