  • Carnival Cruise Line president to take part in skydive for hurricane relief fund
Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy will take part in a tandem skydive on October 19, in support of Hurricane Helene relief efforts through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Duffy is aiming to raise $50,000 during the event, which is a celebration of the first-ever Special Forces Legacy Initiatives (SFLI) cruise, taking place on Carnival Paradise and departing from Tampa Bay on October 19. Duffy will jump from the ‘Tico Belle’, a World War II veteran C-47 aircraft flown during the Normandy D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. The skydive is in collaboration with the Round Canopy Parachute Team, a non-profit organisation that honours the history of Allied Airborne Forces, as well as members of the USSOCOM Para-Commandos, the U.S. Special Operations Command's aerial parachute demonstration team. Christine Duffy said: “I’ve never jumped from an airplane before, so I think this effort is worth at least $50,000 for the Gary Sinise Foundation and their efforts to support military and first responders assisting with hurricane relief. Saying that Carnival is America’s Cruise Line and the favourite cruise line for active-duty military and military veterans is one thing, showing it is another story, and I’m always ready to jump at the chance to prove it.” The Gary Sinise Foundation was established in 2011 by award-winning actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise. The foundation is currently supporting communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band, which has performed more than 40 worldwide, will perform on Carnival Paradise on embarkation day. To donate, click here. For more information, visit carnival.com. 11 October, 2024

  • Cruise Month is here, celebrating holidays at sea
Cruise Month is here, celebrating holidays at sea
September 30, 2024 – Cruise Month has arrived, marking the start of a spectacular summer cruise season in Australia and New Zealand. Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today launched the first initiatives in a month-long campaign designed to generate fresh excitement around cruising and direct consumers to CLIA-member travel agents. This week is Ocean Cruise Week, the first of four weekly themes highlighting the diverse choice of cruising options available in Australia, New Zealand and around the world. Subsequent weeks will celebrate river cruising, expedition cruising and luxury cruising. Among activities planned throughout October is an expanded social media campaign using the hashtag #LoveCruise; digital advertising aligned with the four weekly themes; Cruise Month coverage in newspapers and specialist publications; Cruise Month promotions by CLIA cruise lines; and a competition in which CLIA travel agents who launch their own Cruise Month events can win a travel package to attend next year’s CLIA Awards gala dinner. CLIA Managing Director in Australasia Joel Katz said Cruise Month would help celebrate the start of a busy summer cruise season in Australia and New Zealand. “The number of people cruising is growing and the diversity of cruising options available now means there’s more choice than ever before,” Mr Katz said. “Ocean Week will help highlight the broad appeal cruising has among an increasingly diverse range of holidaymakers – including a rising contingent of younger generations and multi-gen travel groups.” To support members, CLIA has produced a new Cruise Month toolkit that allows travel agents to mount their own Cruise Month initiatives and amplify CLIA’s social media campaign. The toolkit includes Cruise Month logos, social media tiles, imagery, videos, digital banners, a customisable flyer, posters, and more. Agents will also be able to take part in Cruise Month webinars hosted by CLIA cruise lines, allowing them to expand their product knowledge and take advantage of the latest cruise line initiatives. To find out more about Cruise Month and learn how to take part, CLIA members can view a video guide providing information and suggestions on how to mount their own Cruise Month campaigns. The video guide and Cruise Month toolkit are accessible online via the CLIA Members Hub. Follow @CLIAAustralasia on Facebook & LinkedIn for updates and to share Cruise Month posts. See the weekly CLIA newsletter for webinar details and cruise line promotions. 30 September, 2024

Star Princess Commemorates Construction Milestone with Float Out Ceremony
Princess Cruises celebrated a major construction milestone today of its second Sphere Class vessel, Star Princess, with the traditional maritime float out ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The new ship will now transfer to the outfitting quay where construction will continue in anticipation of her Autumn 2025 debut. Honouring the hundreds-year-old seafaring custom, the float out celebrates the first time the superstructure of a new ship meets water for the first time. Third Engineer Chiara del Vecchio, who currently works aboard sister ship Sun Princess, served as the brand’s madrina and became the first member of the Princess technical team to hold this time-honoured role. “Today is a celebration of teamwork, craftsmanship, and innovation. Star Princess is the second ship in our new Sphere Class, and now as she prepares to take to the water for the first time it is a testament to the incredible dedication and skill of the entire shipyard team,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “Fincantieri has again turned vision into reality, building on the success of her sister ship - Sun Princess - which has already captured the hearts of our guests with its elegance and cutting-edge design. Together, we are creating amazing machines that will inspire adventure and deliver unforgettable experiences for all who sail with us for decades to come.” The 4,300-guest, 178,000-tonne Star Princess is the second in the new Sphere Class of ships for Princess and will also be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Sister ship Sun Princess, also built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, debuted in February and is hailed as the next-level Love Boat featuring the iconic and elegant structural lines Princess is known for, while delivering an evolution of the brand with new eye-catching architectural spectacles like The Dome, the cruise industry’s first geodesic feature on the top deck; The Sphere, the suspended glass Sphere Piazza at the center of the cruise ship; and The Arena, the most technically advanced theater at sea. Voyages for the inaugural season of Star Princess are on sale now. 27 September, 2024
